FAQS

Cost

Do private health funds cover costs?

Each health fund varies in cover and you’ll need to check with your insurer to confirm if they provide any subsidy for Medical Cannabis.

Do we offer the compassionate access/use scheme or the PBS?

No – we don’t currently have a compassionate scheme.

Am I eligible for a Medicare rebate?

Medicare rebates may be available for patients visiting a CDA Doctor at one of our physical clinics. It’s important to check with the clinic when making the booking. There’s no Medicare rebate available for Telehealth consultations and Medicinal Cannabis products.

Why are the consultations expensive?

As Medical Cannabis is an unapproved therapeutic good, Medical Practitioners are required to submit applications to the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA). The consultation fee covers the Doctor’s time for the consultation, submitting relevant applications, writing the prescription and sending it to the relevant pharmacy.

Why is the product expensive?

The cost of Medicinal Cannabis products is not currently subsidised by the Commonwealth Government’s Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS). This means patients will need to fund the cost of treatment themselves. The amount paid will vary depending on the type of product prescribed and the dose recommended by the Doctor.
